Cremation Insurance

Cremation is a growing part of your business, but often is an afterthought in your insurance coverage. Too many companies think their current insurance coverage is enough, only to realize after the regulatory investigation or lawsuit begins that the patchwork of plans does not cover their operations where they need it most.

Cremation Assoc. of North American (CANA)

This program is only available to current CANA Members. Members – log in to download an application and get started. Need your login or Member ID? Contact CANA to get them: 312-245-1077 or Brie@CremationAssociation.org. Not a current member? Click here to start your membership today.

Coverages Available in All States

Other Information

Primarily, this is a professional liability insurance policy for crematories – both human and animal, flame and alkaline hydrolysis – anywhere in the United States, including multi-state coverage. But the program can offer so much more than that. Unique policy enhancements can cover the full scope of your business for license action and violation of statutes or law. The base policy is for cremation services and animal cremation, but additional coverage is available as needed for members who offer embalming, funeral services and cemetery management.

Specially designed to cover situations your insurance doesn’t, this is a cremation-first product developed between CANA, your trusted association for all things cremation, and Professional Program Insurance Brokerage (PPIB), a national program manager offering coverage in all US states – two companies who understand your cremation business’s needs.

Both General Liability and Professional Liability insurance are for incidents when a third party sues your business. General Liability is for Bodily Injury/Damage to Property of Others (Slip/Fall) incidents which occur on the premises. But Professional Liability covers you when you are performing professional services, such as following chain of identification on cremated remains. Too often, one policy will not cover the other – General Liability won’t cover professional acts, even with an endorsement. So you can find yourself without coverage.

PPIB completely understands the unique requirements of this industry, and our insurance products are competitively priced and designed specifically to meet the needs of the industry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both are for incidents when a Third Party sues your business. Professional Liability is when you are performing professional services such as Choice of Method to use for each Deceased Human Body or the Identification of Remains. These may not be covered by most General Liability policies. General Liability is for Bodily Injury/Damage to Property of Others (Slip/Fall) incidents which occur on the Premises.

CANA has worked with PPIB to develop a unique program for the cremation industry. We are not aware of any similar coverage anywhere since this was designed for the needs of CANA members. Membership in CANA is required to purchase this special coverage.

Your agent can administer this plan, or you can purchase this policy directly from PPIB. CANA is not an insurance provider or insurance agent.
